Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Workshop in Canberra
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owners in Canberra are a growing crowd. The remanufactured RHD trucks have brought serious American truck capability into the Australian market with proper local support, and the 6.2L V8 LT1 is a brilliant engine. What is not always easy is finding a workshop that genuinely understands the platform. American Builds in Mitchell ACT does, and we work on Silverado 1500 trucks across all trim levels.
Silverado 1500 services we provide
Why Silverado owners come to American Builds
The Silverado is a different beast to a RAM. Different electronics, different transmission, different suspension philosophy. We do not pretend it is the same and apply the same parts list. We tune the build to the truck.
As an authorised FOX distributor we hold large local stock and can handle warranty and rebuilds in-house, so a Silverado that needs FOX work is not waiting on parts from interstate. The Silverado responds particularly well to a quality FOX setup, and we can valve, set ride height and service shocks to suit your build. We are also set up for Trail Boss and ZR2 builds, where the factory off-road components need careful matching with any aftermarket additions.

The 6.2L L87 is one of the best engines in the segment, but the factory tune is conservative. A quality dyno tune unlocks measurable gains in mid-range torque, throttle response, and transmission shift behaviour. With cold air intake and exhaust, the gains compound.
We tune in-house on a 2WD chassis dyno. Every tune is built for the specific truck, not pulled from a generic file. We log fuel trims, knock retard, and transmission behaviour over multiple runs to make sure the tune is reliable for daily driving and towing.
Specialised wheel alignments for American trucks
A 2,400kg Silverado 1500 on 35 inch tyres needs more than a toe-and-go alignment. We do comprehensive wheel alignments specifically for American trucks: corrected caster, camber matched to the wheel and tyre package, full thrust angle correction, and a road test. After a level, lift, GVM upgrade or wheel and tyre change, a proper alignment is what stops you from chewing through tyres and losing on-centre steering feel.
Questions Silverado owners ask us
Does servicing outside the ATECO / RAM Australia network affect my warranty?
Australian Consumer Law protects your right to use any qualified workshop. As long as we follow the manufacturer service schedule and use approved fluids and parts, your warranty is not affected. We document every service properly.
Can you lift a ZR2 without losing the factory DSSV ride?
Yes. We use a collar lift kit that maintains the factory Multimatic DSSV shocks. The truck sits taller, clears bigger tyres, and keeps the ride character that makes a ZR2 a ZR2. We talk through the right tyre and wheel offset to suit at the same time.
What is the largest tyre size that fits a Silverado 1500?
The largest practical tyre is 35 inch, which fits properly on a 3.5 inch lift using FOX coilovers (and the right wheel offset). On a 2 inch level, 33 inch tyres fit comfortably. On a stock truck, 33s fit with minor wheel offset adjustments. We always confirm clearance and finalise wheel offset before fitting any package.
Do you do GVM upgrades on Silverado 1500?
Yes. We do engineered GVM upgrades that are recorded against your VIN. This is particularly useful for tourers and tradies carrying heavy loads. Talk to us with your truck details and intended use for a fixed quote.
Is the Silverado 1500 reliable in Australian conditions?
Yes, with proper servicing. The platform is tested in extreme conditions and the powertrain is well proven. Australian conditions do put more stress on suspension, brakes, and tyres if you drive on dirt or tow regularly, which is why we recommend a slightly tighter service interval if you do.
Where can I see your finished Silverado builds?
We post completed builds on our Instagram (@americanbuildsau) and Facebook page. You are also welcome to drop into the workshop in Mitchell to see what is currently on the hoists.
